Heinrich Brussow has received several rugby awards in 2009 and has been nominated for a few more. He is regarded as one of the top open-side flankers and probably the best at competing on the deck!!

But what makes him such a special player? We have made reference in another blog post to the character of the player and would like to quote:
“He has become a favourite amongst the crowds and I believe the reason is to be found in the following:
- Despite being a short guy – he will not stand back for the bigger players!
- He will not go on the pitch half-hearted!
- We might not win the game – but there will be no doubting the effort from his side!
- He will remain humble, be a team player and give recognition to team mates!”
But from a purely technical side, what makes him so effective? I believe Springbok assistant coach Gary Gold sums it up best in his video analysis of Heinrich Brussow. Aspects such as “anticipation” and “intelligence” mark the ability of Brussow in competing for the ball after a tackle.

Hi nee JJ,, baie van die goeie flanke wat VS gehad het was baie lojale spelers. Andre Venter, Rassie Erasmus en Juan Smith is manne wat enduit by VS gbly het. Dalk is Brossouw ook een van hulle?
